What is "Slow Living"?

We live in a society that is constantly overstimulated.

Our days are shaped by pressure, notifications, expectations, and an endless sense of urgency. Productivity is praised, rest is postponed, and silence has become unfamiliar. Stress is no longer an exception, it is the default. This way of living slowly pulls us away from ourselves, disconnecting us from our bodies, our rhythms, and our sense of calm.

Yet this is not how humans have lived for most of history!

For centuries, Arab societies structured daily life around rhythm and intention. Rituals were embedded into daily life, not as luxury, but as a part of life. The use of fragrance such as oud, musk, and incense was not only decorative, but ritualistic. Homes were designed as places of rest and gathering. Time was honored through pauses, reflection, and presence. These practices naturally created Sakiynah.

Slow living is a return to this way of being.

It is not about rejecting modern life, but about remembering what we have forgotten. To live with intention rather than constant acceleration. To allow routines to become rituals again. Slow living gives awareness. It encourages choosing quality over excess, presence over distraction, and rest over speed.

At Sakiynah, we think that slow living is not about going backward. It is about returning to what has always mattered.
